Bio
Mister Loveless, a veritable Frankenstein's monster of genres, composed of alternative rock, surf instrumentals, post-punk, no wave, and countless other styles is a four- piece band hailing from California's East Bay. Though the namesake has existed for nearly five years, the band in its current incarnation (Rachael Travers, Charlie Koliha, Sean Gaffney, Rob Miller) has existed for two. Shortly after releasing their full length debut, "My Share of Losing" in 2006, founding members Charlie Koliha (bass guitar) and Rob Miller (vocals, guitars) grew tired of their then current repertoire and contemplated disbanding. Their similar disenchantment with the band's earlier sound, however, drove them to create together again. They recruited Rachael Travers to play drums and long time friend, Sean Gaffney, to be the second guitarist. The original plan was to put together the new group and work on a handful of compositions Miller and Koliha had written post "My Share of Losing". Both Rob and Charlie soon realized that to tell Travers or Gaffney how to play would be selling their abilities short and quickly abandoned any idea of doing so. This decision caused any plans of recording the follow up to “My Share of Losing” to be postponed. It did, however, cause the group to create a new sound, far and away more mature than anything that previously came from Mister Loveless. The four spent months both crafting songs and recording demos in their self- built studio/rehearsal space at Miller's home in Walnut Creek. On April 13th, 2007,the band made their first live appearance in nine months to debut the new line up and material they had written together. They toured the Northwest that summer, and upon returning, began pre-production for their upcoming EP, "Two Words." The new EP marks a rebirth for Mister Loveless. It consists of four tracks, each displaying a different aspect of the group. The songs range from dark, western sing-a-longs reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen or Nick Cave; to punk-energy surf guitar driven rock n’ roll, not unlike that of the Pixies. The eclectic blend of instrumentation is all tied together with lyrical themes of the death of innocence and suburban anxiety. “Two Words”, co-produced and engineered by Duane Ramos at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco, California, will be available in May 31st, 2008.
